Sleighing It - Holiday Makeup Series - Gingerbread Glam

Welcome to the ManicMakeupGirl
 Sleighing It Holiday Makeup Series.

I asked you guys on social media what you wanted to see this holiday season...
A) Crazy Holiday Inspired Looks
B) Wearable Holiday Looks
C) Both

I am happy to say that the majority of you voted for BOTH! I got to have the best of both worlds and do crazy Christmas makeup as well as fun holiday party looks.
I will be sharing three posts with you that include a crazy look, and a wearable version.

Look #1 is a little sweet and a little spicy...and very glittery.

Run Run Run...
As Fast As You Can....
 You Can't Catch Me...
Because I'm Gingerbread GLAM.

How over the top is this gingerbread look?
I channeled all the warm gingerbread tones as well as those classic Christmas colors for the (literal) icing on top.
In my world...gingerbread girls MUST have glitter.
Spicy and Sparkly is just how I like it.
I used the Urban Decay Naked Heat Palette for those smoky red and brown gingerbread eyes.
That sparkle is my all time FAVE liquid eye glitter by Stila in Smouldering Satin.
I added a touch of Colourpop red liquid eye liner on top of that extended black wing just for fun.
For my ombre red lips I used my trusty Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Rubino and topped it with the shimmer version in Beso to give it some dimension and sparkle.
As I did with my Halloween Pop Art look (here)...I added a cartoon like element by slightly outlining my lips with white to give it some reflection.
Meet my inspiration for this look. My coffee MUG! Isn't it so cute?
Who else gets inspired by drinking coffee? (We all raise our hand).
My adorable gingerbread coffee mug is out of stock at Target, but here are some other cute Christmas mug options (HERE).

Let's move on to the wearable and publicly acceptable version of this look.
It's still glam...and it's still glittery...but it's toned down to be appropriate for any holiday event you might have this season.

This look is perfectly balanced between smoky and sparkly. I love that this eye look isn't SO over the top that it competes with the red lips. It's just enough definition with the brown shades and just enough sparkle for that holiday fun.
Here is a closer look of the eyes.
As you can tell, I also added a little of that Colourpop Red Liquid Eyeliner for a POP of festive fun on the eyes. It's not too overwhelming with the shadows because they are neutral shades and compliment the red tone.

Here's how to get this eye look:
Using the Urban Decay Naked Heat Palette...
1) Liberally take shade 1 (Chaser) all over your eyelid (from lashes to brow bone). This will neutralize any redness or uneven tone on your lid and create a nude base for this look.
2) Use shade 2 (Sauced) in the crease of your eye and slightly higher above the crease (but not all the way to the brow bone) and blend well. This shade helps create a nice transition from the eye lid to the brow bone area.
3) Use shade 3 (Low Blow) to continue adding depth to the crease area. Focus this shade on the crease area only (not above the crease where you applied Sauced).
4) Take shade 4 (En Fuego) and blend well in the crease and follow down to the outer corner of your eyelid. (Just FYI...this shade is very pigmented so a little goes a long way. If you accidentally use too much, just keep blending and it will help to soften the intensity).
5) For the final shadow, use shade 5 (Ashes) in the very outer corner and underneath the lower lash line to give a smoky effect.

**For my hooded eye gals (a hooded eye means you can't see the eyelid unless the eye is closed). You can still do this smoky gingerbread eye look by using shade #4 (En Fuego) or #5 (Ashes) all over your eyelid and then using shade #3 (Low Blow) as a transition shade above your lid.

A piece of advice for anyone scared to try this look...
When in doubt...blend it out.
Blending helps diffuse harsh shadow lines and ease transitions from
one color to the next. (Blending 101: Take your eye shadow brush and use it in small circle motions OR windshield wiper motions (left, right, left, right) to easily blend like a pro).

If you want to add A touch of glitter (that does NOT budge or fall on your face) use the Stila Glitter and Glow Liquid Eye Shadow and take a small dab on your finger and gently pat onto the inner corner of your eye. Build up to your desired sparkle.
I used a black liquid liner to create my wing and then added the Colourpop red liquid liner on the top edge of my black liner to add that touch of red.
Glitter, winged liner and the red eyeliner are totally optional for this look. As always, I like a little extra extra when it comes to my eye look.
However, I do highly recommend finishing off this look with your favorite mascara. Mascara polishes the look and also makes your eyes pop!
Lipstick is always a personal choice because not everyone feels comfortable wearing a red lip. It took me YEARS to try a red lip and once I did...I fell in love. Red is so perfect for the holidays because it's festive and also so classy. Feel free to wear your favorite red lipstick or any other color of your choosing. That's the beauty of this look - your eyes are in neutral territory so you can really get away with ANY lip color you feel comfortable with.
P.S. - How cute are my Merry Christmas Earrings!?? They are from Versona!
