Easy Halloween Makeup - Comic Book Pop Art

It's a bird!
It's a plane!
No!!!
It's........ MANICMAKEUPGIRL!!!!

Today's look is called "Pop Art".
Pop Art is traditionally used to depict brightly colored comic book art like it's "popping" right off the page.
However, it's not solely associated with comic book art. Pop Art came onto the world scene in the late 1950's for advertising purposes and flourished throughout the 1960's. Normal every day items (like Campbell's Soup cans) were shown with bold, bright, and usually non-realistic colors (think the iconic Andy Warhol images below).
The name of the Comic Book Pop Art Makeup game is to over-exaggerate EVERYTHING
Eyes are bigger, lashes are longer, tears are brightly colored blues, and emotions are on full display.
You want to look as "cartoon-ish" as possible... Like you literally just stepped out of a comic book.
That's why you will see Pop Art makeup and costumes with all those dots and lines.
Primary colors are generally used (Yellow, Blue, and Red) with heavy accents of black and white to amp up the comic factor.
So that being said....please humor me with my own MMG Comic Strip for today's look.

In a world far far away....
The color is vanishing.
Reds, blues, and yellows are disappearing from everyone's face!
What will we do!?
How will we save the Color!?
We must call for MMG!!....
....ManicMakeupGirl to the rescue!
Alright thank you for allowing me to be a nerd and make my own comic for a minute.
But seriously how fun is that makeup!?
This was one of my most favorite makeup looks ever! Like ever, ever!
I'm not even really into comic books but I had so much fun trying to create my own character.
I literally woke up in the middle of the night thinking..."What if half of my face was in black and white and the other side was color!?"
My inner makeup nerd is definitely showing.
So as you can see, I only used black, white, and gray for one half of my face (Just as if the color suddenly vanished!!) And the other side was in full, vivid, over-exaggerated color.
For the black and white side, I used the lightest color foundation that I had (hello white sheet of paper skin tone) and then lightly blended on a white face paint to give it an even more colorless effect. I made sure to set it with a translucent setting powder so it would stay nice and matte.
I obviously didn't use any blush or bronzer for this side either, instead I used gray and black powder eye shadow to give my face some shape, but without color. A colorless contour if you will. I also used ZERO highlighter or anything with a shimmer to it since I wanted everything to be flat and matte (no color remember). Anything that would have a natural highlight (the brow bone, bridge of my nose, lips) I used the white face paint to gently give the effect of light hitting those areas, but without actually reflecting light.
I went super dark with my brows since they are also suppose to be either black or white, so I filled them in with a felt tip liquid eyeliner pen (the same pen that I used to outline my face, nose, chin, eyes, and lips with).
I went super basic with the eyes and just shaded them out with black eye shadow, especially on the outer crease where a natural shadow is. Then I added a super long and exaggerated eyeliner wing and drew out fake lashes on my eyelid as well as underneath my eye. Remember...everything is OVER the top. I used the white face paint to rim the lower waterline of my eyes so they would look wider and more cartoon like.
For the Pop Art dots, I used a black gel eye liner to make those perfect little circles. SO easy! If you don't have a gel or pencil eyeliner, try some black face paint and a Q Tip!
Now, on to lips!
I didn't have an actual black lipstick, so I decided to use the darkest shade I had which actually ended up working out perfectly. It was a super deep purple and gave off the most perfect gray vibe so I could still outline my lips in black without it all blending in. And finally, I added my a little white paint to my lips to give it that classic comic reflection.
This side is exactly the same as the black and white, but with COLOR! Lots and lots of color!
I used the darkest shade of foundation I had to really punch up this side of my face. I wanted you to be able to tell that this side of my face had color and vibrancy. I went in heavily with bronzer and blush to shade and contour everything as well. I wanted this side to have the flush of life in it, so go heavier than you would on a normal makeup day.
I went with a red metallic eye shadow to keep in the primary color theme and also have the natural light catching properties of the shimmer.  Brows were a little more on the darker side than I normally would, but again, you're a comic book character so play it up! You could even go full black brows on both side if you want.
Again, I over-exaggerated the wing of my eyeliner and added those fake, drawn on eyelashes on the top and bottom. I also filled in the bottom waterline with white to make them larger, just like the other side. We want both sides to "match" in everything but color.
I added the iconic tear drop on this side to play up the emotions. A blue eyeliner pencil worked great for this! (Don't forget to add the little pop of white on the tear drop)!
I drew the black outlines of my face on with that felt tip eyeliner pen and then went in for the red dots. Just a plain ole red lipstick will do amazing things for this look.
I used a red liquid lipstick and just dabbed a Q Tip in it and dotted it on my face and neck. Easy Peasy!
I also used the same red lipstick for my lips and then outlined them with the black eyeliner pen.

For hair, you can totally do whatever you want. I went with that classic hair roll (that I showed you how to do - HERE). But I kind of wish I would have gotten a bright colored wig! I think those look so cool with this kind of makeup. But again, if you want easy...use what you have!
Really, the most important part of this look are the dots and black lines. The lines can go anywhere you want but I recommend that you outline your face, lips, and anywhere you want to exaggerate your features (chin, nose, cheekbones, neck, eyes).
So even if you don't want to do all the "makeup" stuff with it, those are a MUST. Your dots can be black, white, red, yellow, or blue if you want to stay classic Pop Art, but a neon color palette would also be fun!
I'm sure you know, but you don't have to do this half black and white and half color look. You can do all color, no color, or your own mix. SO many possibilities! And remember, you're a comic book character so make up whatever story you want and run with it!
