Easy Halloween Makeup - Rosie the Riveter

I can’t believe the holiday season is already here! Once we hit Halloween the holiday rush is just in overdrive. January to May is the longest part of the year and after summer hits and September rolls around, the last few months go at warp speed!
If you’re like me, you wait until the last second to think of a Halloween costume. Yes, I know there are those rare gems who plan this out strategically since the LAST Halloween but, I am not one of those gems.
Normally, it’s all completely last minute for me - aside from my kids. My children have themed and planned costumes picked and ready by August. But when it comes to myself, I literally wait until the day of. If you’re like me and wait until the trick-or-treaters are ringing your doorbell for candy to get a costume together then you are in LUCK!
I will be posting a new and EASY Halloween makeup/costume idea every weekday up until Halloween! The goal is to be able to recreate one of these looks with things you already have at home and in your makeup drawer. Just FYI... red lipstick and a black eyeliner go a loooooong way in the Halloween makeup department.
So, please check back every weekday to see what costumes you can whip up faster than a kid on a sugar high!
Today’s super easy costume idea is....

ROSIE THE RIVETER

Please tell me you all know who Rosie is?
If not... your history teachers will surely cry.
Rosie the Riveter is an icon in World War II imagery. And while she was a real person (although not named Rosie) she embodied all of the people, especially women, who took up jobs to keep the American economy going while many were off at war. The iconic “We can do it” poster was created by artist J. Howard Miller and contrary to popular belief, it was not a recruitment advertisement. Miller's artwork was used as a motivational advertisement for all of those working in the war effort - not just women. The poster embodied the idea that everyone needed to roll up their sleeves and get to work to get the job done.
So, if you want to roll up your sleeves and get this Halloween makeup done... keep reading!

For makeup, the focus to recreate Rosie is simple.
Strong brows and bold red lips.
If you don’t feel comfortable doing eye makeup, you’re in luck! This look doesn’t have to have ANY (I just left mine on from earlier in the day).
All I did to my face was use a little bronzer to warm up my skin and fill in my brows with a brow pencil to make them strong and bold.
The last makeup step was adding that classic red lip. DONE!
How’s that for easy Halloween makeup?
The iconic part of the Rosie costume isn’t in the makeup though, it’s in the hair and shirt.
The main part of the hair I wanted to recreate was the classic front hair roll. And that’s exactly what it is, a hair roll (think cinnamon roll but on your head).
Take your front section of hair and smooth it out. Then start at the bottom and roll the hair around your fingers twisting upward (think of it as putting in a hair roller, but without the roller). If your hair keeps slipping out while you're rolling it up, add a bobby pin or a little hairspray to the bottom of your hair to keep it together and then roll up. Once you roll the hair to the top of your forehead, pin it securely in place and give it a shot of hairspray.
There really is no wrong way to do this part. But, if you would like a video demo on how to do this step, here you go!
And if hair isn’t your thing, just grab that red scarf (or a red bandana) and tie it around your hair and don’t worry about the hair roll. Easy is what we want, right?
Hair roll or not, you NEED to have that red scarf tied around your hair and a blue shirt.
THAT is Rosie!!!
No way around those two details. They are a MUST.
If you're in need of a red scarf, Amazon's got you covered (HERE).
I didn't have a blue button up shirt, so I used my husband’s blue dress shirt for this since you roll up the sleeves anyway. I have had that red scarf for years and years and I didn't even really know why I kept it. But, my eyes have been opened and now I know...I kept it for ROSIE! So, dig through your closet and you might be able to scrounge up more costumes than you think.

If a cultural icon isn’t exactly your jam, let me show you a 2nd way to style this exact look. Hair and makeup are exactly the same. The only thing that changes with this look are your wardrobe and accessories.
Meet the VINTAGE GLAM GIRL.

I feel like her name should be Maude or something.
Maude Mayvis Merriweather.
Maude likes to have house parties and make jello salad all while wearing this look with some red high heels (and probably while she is vacuuming too).
Just a little tip here...If you call it “Vintage Glam”... that doesn’t limit you to a certain decade. That way you can use what you have and create whoever you want to be for that night.
Add your favorite scarf, head wrap, or headband and pop on some pearls to make this look classic and again... EASY!!!
The possibilities are endless with a good red lip and an outfit change.
