Family Time Gift Guide

 Happy Monday to you all!
Did you know we only have TWO Monday's left until Christmas.
WOW!
December is flying by faster than Rudolph on a sugar high!
I know I previously promised you a gift guide for kids, but I figured you’ve probably gotten the scoop on what’s hot for babies, kids, and teens already since we are well into December now.
So, please forgive me for not getting that one to you this year, but instead I decided to find ways for you to increase family time while also increasing the fun! You don’t have to have kids to enjoy these games. These are winners for people of all ages. Promise!
These ideas are also great for parties or for giving as one gift for multiple people. For example: your cousin Irma with 7 kids. Instead of buying 7 gifts, buy one that they can all enjoy together.
One and done!
Many of these finds are games to play together to increase talk time and decease screen time. A few are also awesome outside games to make those weekends and cool nights into solid family memories.
Let’s get to it!

First up, traditional games!
I’m sure you all have heard of (and played) most of these games, but they’re classics and always so much fun (if it ain’t broke don’t fit it, right?).
My five year old son is the KING of Candy Land and he just got Twister as a gift and is obsessed with it! These games are great for all ages and for ramping up that competitive family spirit (no flipping tables - okay y’all?).

These next options all include a card element. Some are well known classics (lookin at you UNO and Charades) and others are a fresh take on familiar card games.
5 Second Rule takes fast paced to a whole new level. Players must spout out 3 answers in a certain category in under 5 seconds! Phew! I am sweating just thinking about it! I’m sure your crew will love trying to be quick on their feet with this fun card game.
Rock, Paper, Scissors, Pickles! is a new fun twist on that old hand game we have all played before. The pickle trumps all and you can only use the pickle if you draw it from the cards. My son is getting this for Christmas because he loves dill pickles and Rock, Paper, Scissors - perfect!
Apples to Apples has been around for ages, but they just recently updated this card game to be easier to play for younger kids. Now the whole family can get involved. Side note: many....MANY hours of my college years were spent playing this game with my church college group. It was always fun and great for large groups.

These next finds are new to the game scene but are sure to get people laughing and talking and reminiscing.

The “Watch Ya Mouth” game is the most hilarious game ever. Even those moody teens can’t help but laugh when you’re trying to read a sentence with those dental guards in your mouth! Many belly laughs will be had when grandpa Joe tries his hand (or mouth) at this game.
Throw Throw Burrito brings dodge ball and cards to the gaming table. If your family or friends like to go ALL in with the competitiveness... this needs to be in your home!
Blockbuster. Yes. I said it... BLOCKBUSTER has a party game!!!!! This game includes it all: Movie trivia, fast paced fire rounds, and more. What a fun game to have this holiday season. And, it’s also a sure bet that no one has ever played it before because it’s brand new this year (Blockbuster video store smell not included).
Along the same nostalgic vein is the “Hella 90’s” trivia game. Have a 90’s group in need of gifting? This is the one! How many memories will it bring back just from playing? If you were alive in the 90’s you need this game. Bust out those scrunchies!

If word games are more your style, then you must have these in your house.
Nothing says family love more than fighting over if a word is actually a word, right? You might want to buy a dictionary along with these games just to be safe.
We all know how Scrabble works and it’s a classic game that never goes out of style. But, if you’re bored with it, try UPWORDS (It’s like Scrabble but on steroids). You build your words on top of other words to basically create letter skyscrapers and greatly increase the difficulty. Definitely a brain game! It's been around for a while, but that doesn't make it any less fun.
Bananagrams is a favorite in our house. It’s kind of Scrabble-ish but without the board (and points system). We literally keep this game in our hurricane and snow preparedness kit because it entertains for hours and it is so tiny and compact. Definitely a word game winner!

I know we are trying to get away from screen time, but these games incorporate a little parental approved device time into their family fun.

Karaoke is a given for creating hilarious and fun memories with friends and family. (Summer Nights from Grease, anyone??). I love that this version connects right to your phone (or any device with Bluetooth) for the words and tunes! Super easy to pull out at parties and for when your kids need to be embarrassed. HA!
I know I already shared Pictionary with you earlier, but this version lets you draw in the air instead of on paper or a dry erase board. How fun is that? You can set it up to show the air drawings on your Smart TV,  phones, and tablets. It definitely adds a fun new element to this classic game.
Phone Phever just might be genius to get your teens (who are attached to their phones) to play family games! This game is trivia based but you can use your phone to see who finds the correct answer the fastest. Play as individuals or as teams.

Let’s move on to fun outside activities and games for the whole family.
Capture the flag is an outside staple for a lot of families around the holidays. It’s competitive and also gets everyone up and moving. This version kicks it up a notch by making it GLOW IN THE DARK!! How fun is that? This set comes with everything you need for a 5 on 5 game of capture the flag in the dark. Perfect for parties or for when those kids need to burn off some extra energy.

This glow train isn’t stopping yet. If you have some Ninja loving kiddos this set turns playing regular Ninja into a glow in the dark adventure. 10 different game modes and foam ninja accessories to make any boring night into the best night of their lives!

Am I aware that it is almost winter and that this is a Christmas gift guide?
Yes.
Did I grow up in Florida where you can pretty much swim year round?
Also, yes.
It’s never too early to plan for pool parties, right!? How fun is this glow in the dark pool party kit?
Kids (and adults) of all ages will never forget the memories made with this fun set.

Up your dart skills with this giant outdoor glow in the dark lawn game. You can use it during the day and at night with that added glow bonus. Great for all ages and fun year round.
Next up, laser tag!!!!
Did anyone else go play laser tag after their high school homecoming? Or was that just us? I don’t care how young or old you are... laser tag is the BEST! Why not bring that fun home with you for your family this year? This set comes with 4 laser guns and 4 vests to keep track of who gets hit and who doesn’t (so you don't have to be the cheat police).
This last option probably seems... random... but come on, y’all! Badminton is SO FUN! (I always thought it was badmitten....whoops). We played this in P.E. soooo many times in high school and we always had the best time. I was trying to think of games you might not already have at home and when I saw this set it just brought all the fun memories back. This easy pop up net comes with 4 rackets and 2 birdies. If you want to amp up the fun, grab a set of glow in the dark birdies to play this after the sun goes down.

This one is especially for my Florida friends since they NEVER get to have snow on Christmas (unless they travel). This fun little indoor snowball fight set makes clean up a breeze (as in...no ice...no snow...no mess). These soft and fluffy fake snowballs won't hurt you (or your house) and will bring hours of fun competition indoors.

If games really aren’t for your family or you would like an additional option to stay off the screens then you definitely need to check out these baking gift boxes!
These Baketivity boxes are just that... baking and activities!!
Each box comes with all of the dry ingredients (pre-measured) to make a special treat (from cookies, whoopie pies and cupcakes, to granola bars and bagels). During your baking wait time an activity is included in the box to continue the fun and memory making until that oven timer goes off. These baking kits are perfect for kids and teens from age 4 and beyond.

If you would like the ultimate (and easy) gift for your family or friends this movie and snack box is perfect! You have everything you need to enjoy a fun family movie night at home. This box includes a prepaid rental code for a Redbox movie as well as popcorn and all different kinds of candy. The best part is that it is WAY cheaper than taking everyone to the movie theater (it is so expensive these days, right?). Basically for the price of two movie tickets you can enjoy your own movie night in the comfort of your own home (no sticky floor necessary).
